The Hybrids
Breeding Hybrids
Hybrid chickens are different from purebred chickens. They are called hybrids because they are the result of crossing different breeds of chickens. Most of them are descended from the Rhode Island Red, the Mayans, the Plymouth Rock, the Sussex, or the Leghorn.
The weight of the chickens after fattening varies between 1 and 5 kg. We buy our day-old chicks from suppliers and transport them to our farms.
The breeding can last between 3 to 5 months and is done in a building but can be done in a range on an area. The hybrid is sometimes called African or village chicken because of its resemblance to so-called African chickens. However, the hybrid can be a cross between a village rooster and a broiler hen.
Hybrids are rigorously monitored from their arrival until their sale, respecting the breeding process set up at THE ELIEL FARM. Food, medication, vaccines, cleanliness are all part of the process.
Our breeding process at THE ELIEL FARM allows us to respect the most basic conditions for their growth: moving, eating, perching, resting, stretching/flapping their wings, etc. We avoid crowding them, which sometimes leads to suffocation, which causes difficult living conditions and sometimes cascading deaths.
